Council Director's Message
November 15, 2008

I’m really excited about my first Council Meeting as your Council Director. We have had so many great council directors and I never thought I would be one of them, but here I am!

I want to take a moment to thank LAIP ---- they hosted my first local visit and made me feel so welcome that I almost forgot to get nervous. I think we had a good meeting, I know I truly enjoyed myself.

I also want to give a special thank you to my assistant, Judi Botkins, for all her help in getting me here today. And the committee for the meeting was phenomenal! Patty Drees chaired the committee and her years of expertise in NAIW were really a blessing, especially since I sure don’t know what I’m doing!

My theme for this year is “Keeping Fit with NAIW”. So many times we think about the educational classes to keep our minds up to date with current trends in our industry but we forget that we need to keep the whole package in good working order. Otherwise, neither the mind nor the body can work properly. So let’s do our best to keep our bodies strong and our minds sharp this year.

But don’t stop there ---- let’s do the same thing with our local associations. Let’s work to make our educational programs the kind that all our members want to take and that will improve their status in our industry. But don’t forget to build the body of your membership and keep it growing with the fun things that we know help to bring in new members. We can’t focus entirely on the mind of the association and forget about the body!

Let’s continue “Keeping Fit with NAIW”!

If one feeds one’s body
On trash and on trivia,
One thing is certain to be-
The muscles grow weak,
The faculties fail,
You can’t build a structure, you see!

If one feeds one’s mind
On fiddle and frath,
Never exercising its cells -
You’re sure to come out
With a half-grown mind,
And somehow it always tells!
