Kentucky Thoroughbred

December 2005

When I sat down to type this letter about another “KY Thoroughbred” I recalled the number of stories I have had the privilege of relaying in my past years with NAIW / NKAIW / KSAIW. Each story was about a truly remarkable person and of course this story will be no different in most aspects. The one thing that makes this story slightly different is that it describes a person that not only “Reached for the NAIW Horizon” she also “Stayed on Track with NAIW” and continued to “Race beyond the Horizon”. She was born with “Points of Excellence” from Ohio but is now a true Unbridled “Spirit” from Kentucky.

It is my utmost honor to tell you a little bit about my dear friend, Peggy Eubanks ARA, CPIW, ACS; who definitely “Holds the Key to Success with NAIW” and knows that “Shoulder to Shoulder” with NAIW she can.

She was born Peggy Elaine Marsh in a small town called Loveland Park, Ohio. Peggy was the fifth of nine children. She grew up with a love for family, music and learning. The family always gathered around to sing by the fireside or listen to the stories on the radio in her early years and of course, her mom always read to all the kids before they went to bed.

Peggy graduated from Clermont Northeastern High School in 1965 in the top 5 in her class. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the school choir. She was asked to sing a solo at her high school graduation.

Peggy got married and went to work in a bakery packing cookies, yes, she was a Keebler elf! The marriage and the job in the factory didn’t last long. After ending both she went to work for Inter-Ocean Insurance Company in the Actuarial Department as a statistical clerk in 1967. She worked for a year, met her current husband, Bob Eubanks in the print shop at work, and quit work to have her daughter, Dawn in 1969. When Dawn was about a year old they called Peggy and asked her if she wanted her old job back. She went back to work and worked her way up to the Reinsurance Specialist position. In 1973 Inter-Ocean was purchased by Cincinnati Financial Corporation. Peggy and Bob went with the company when they relocated to Springdale, Ohio. Peggy quit again in 1974 due to babysitting problems; and after four and a half years off the head of the Actuarial Department told her that her old job was open again if she wanted it back. She went back in 1979 and has been full time ever since working her way up to Administrative Manager of the Actuarial Department.

Peggy joined NKAIW in 1993 and became an officer the first year and has been active in the association at some level ever since. She served as Treasurer for the 2002 Regional Conference and as Custodian of the Funds on the state level as well as serving on various committees. She has taken many NAIW courses including CWC and Rules of the Road.

Peggy was working towards her ARE (Associate in Reinsurance) designation and hoping to get her CPIW, too. She found out from NAIW that none of the LOMA designations, except the FLMI were approved for her CPIW. Peggy gathered together all the information she could find on the LOMA designations and with the help of then state director, Lorene Friedman and RVP Bonnie Avila, was able to get the LOMA designations on the national docket and get them approved for CPIW credit. She thinks this is probably her greatest achievement in NAIW. In December 2004 she received her CPIW designation from NAIW.

She continues to work towards new designations and in service to NAIW / NKAIW / KSAIW. Peggy is proud to proclaim her “Passion for NAIW” and to make it the “Association of Her Choice”.

Peggy, the Kentucky State Association of Insurance Women is very proud to proclaim you “ Our Kentucky Thoroughbred” for December 2005.
